Legal experts expressed their contempt and disgust when they called Judge Cannon’s decision for Trump terrible.
Here’s George Conway on CNN:
Conway: This verdict is absolutely a disgrace. And I don’t think it takes very much to knock it down. Barr told the New York Times that the original request from Trump’s lawyers was a failure
Shit, a bunch of shit. This opinion is worse than that. pic.twitter.com/Y9eHVrQTZ6

Conway said: “This verdict is absolutely a disgrace. And I don’t think it takes very much to knock it down. Bill Barr told the New York Times that the original request from Trump’s lawyers was a pot of shit, a pot of shit. This opinion is worse than that.”
Barbara McQuade pointed out that Cannon rejected the idea that documents marked as classified are actually classified, “Instead, she dismissed that argument entirely. And I even said something that I found really disturbing, which is that just because these documents have classified markings doesn’t mean they’re classified. She also rejected an unrefuted affidavit submitted to the FBI’s Director of Counterintelligence. There is no evidence to the contrary that what he says is wrong when he says the criminal investigation is inseparable from the national security assessment.”

Glenn Kirschner tweeted:
Judge Cannon just proved how dangerous the Trump/McConnell belittling of federal justice is. In fact, she said she does not accept that the documents bearing classified marks are classified documents. Echoes of Trump: “A lot of people say they are NOT classified.”

Joyce Vance tweeted:
Judge Cannon appoints a special master and refuses to lift the injunction barring the DOJ from using classified documents to further criminal investigations, which also hinders intelligence agencies’ review of the damage Trump caused. Next, 11th Circuit Court. Terrible judgement. pic.twitter.com/F8l5jYdgjq

There is a strong consensus among legal experts that Judge Cannon’s verdict was terrible or worse. The verdict should be overturned on appeal, but it goes to the 11th Circuit, where the majority of judges are Trump-appointed.
As the nation has witnessed for years, many Trump-appointed judges have no problem ruling against the former president, so it may not matter that he appointed them, but what Judge Cannon did is the drafter’s one of the worst Judgments in Recent American Judicial History.
