An opinion piece published by the World Economic Forum praises how “billions” of people have complied with the “restrictions” imposed as a result of the lockdown and suggests they would do the same under the guise of reducing carbon emissions.
The article is titled My Carbon: An Approach to Inclusive and Sustainable Cities and was written by Mridul Kaushik, Mission Director, Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of India.
The topic of the article is how to persuade people to implement “personal carbon credit programs”, as such programs have been largely unsuccessful so far.
However, Kaushik notes that improvements in tracking and surveillance technology are helping to overcome “political resistance” to such programs.
Writing that “COVID-19 has been the test of social responsibility,” Kaushik praises how “a vast number of unimaginable public health restrictions have been passed by billions of citizens around the world.”
“There have been numerous examples around the world of maintaining social distancing, mask-wearing, mass vaccinations and accepting public health contact-tracing requests that demonstrated the core of individual social responsibility,” he adds.
Kaushik cites how so many people have complied with lockdown mandates despite overwhelming evidence of the damaging consequences of such restrictions on society, and implies they would behave in a similarly subservient manner in other areas of life.
Such conformity would be fueled by technology, including artificial intelligence, digitization and “smart home” devices, Kaushik argues.
The article goes on to call for a social credit-style carbon rationing system that would provide “individual advice on lower-carbon and ethical choices in consuming products and services.”
New social norms would also be created to define what constitutes a “fair share” of personal emissions and to set “acceptable levels” of personal emissions.
We’ve previously documented how technocrats are preparing “mandatory” personal carbon certificates that would introduce rationing into every area of your life via an app that tracks your travel, heating bills and even the food you eat.
As we highlight in the video below, climate protection groups are also working with television producers to insert messages about global warming and carbon emissions into shows.
